PBS Newsletter (Winter, 2007)
The winter issue of the Newsletter provides a successful PBS implementation example at home. 8-year-old Jack showed challenging behaviors such as interrupting, grabbing and tearing clothes, and inappropriate conversational topics to get attention from family members. Social stories and songs were applied to teach new skills. The new skills taught included waiting your turn, interrupting appropriately, choosing appropriate conversation topics, allowing mom her privacy, engaging in an activity on own, sharing, and so on.

This issue of PBS (positive behavior support) newsletter is focus on a successful individual PBS using self-management system. Julie was a 14 year old middle school girl and had behaviors that interfere with school and social success. The PBS approach started from figuring out why those problem behaviors occur. Multiple PBS interventions made positive change in behaviors based on the function of Julie’s behavior. The intervention process included environmental change, teaching new skills, and self monitoring.
