The Cross-Cultural Competency and Special Education summarized Korean-American Parents' satisfaction with special education services in America and their experiences related to exchange of information with professionals. In addition, the study identifies the need for a mediator as well as the parents' perceptions of inclusion. Action steps are also provided.
Twenty Korean-American mothers participated in an interview in 2005 to measure their satisfaction about social and educational services in the U.S., difficulties of different cultural values and communication styles in partnering with professionals, and the need and use of translation services for IEP meetings. Both of the findings and action steps are provided in the Korean-American Mothers' Perception on Special Education.
